Pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Bath enjoyed an unforgettable residential trip to Cornwall, taking part in a range of outdoor activities designed to build confidence, resilience and teamwork.
The children, from the school which is part of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, stayed at Elemental Surf Lodge in Newquay and spent several days exploring Cornwall’s coastline while challenging themselves through a variety of adventurous experiences.

The residential began with a day at Fistral Beach, where pupils learned bodyboarding skills and quickly embraced the challenges of the waves. The following day saw the children take to the surf, with many successfully standing up on their boards for the first time.
One of the highlights of the week came during a visit to Swanpool Beach, where pupils enjoyed kayaking, mega SUP and coasteering activities. Throughout the residential, children demonstrated courage, determination and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
The adventure concluded with a walk around the Cornish headland, where pupils experienced the power of the coastal winds before enjoying a creative afternoon building sand sculptures on the beach.

The residential provided opportunities for children to develop new skills, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories while experiencing the natural beauty of Cornwall’s coastline.
Nicole Pecchia, headteacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, said, “This residential has been a fantastic experience for our pupils. They have shown incredible enthusiasm, resilience and courage throughout the week, whether learning to surf, trying new water sports or taking on personal challenges.

“We are extremely proud of everything they have achieved and the positive attitude they have shown throughout the trip.”
Helen Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, added, “Residential experiences provide children with invaluable opportunities to develop confidence, independence and teamwork beyond the classroom. It is wonderful to see St Mary’s pupils embracing new challenges, supporting one another and creating memories that will stay with them for years to come.”
