Saint Edmund’s Catholic Primary School in Calne celebrates Green ratings across all five improvement priorities in its latest DfE RISE review.

The review found that the school is making good progress towards both its short and longer-term objectives, with improvements already evident in a number of areas. In particular, the review highlighted clear approaches to teaching reading, writing and maths, with early indications of improved reading outcomes, especially among Year 5 pupils.

Positive developments in classroom teaching were also recognised, while the school’s approach to behaviour was praised for helping to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

A quality assurance visit identified improvements in behaviour at important points throughout the school day, including playtimes and transitions between activities.

Pupils were found to understand the expectations placed upon them and to feel positive and valued within the school community. Staff were also recognised for their confidence in managing behaviour and maintaining high expectations.

Attendance remains another important focus, with the school continuing to monitor attendance levels and take action where necessary. The review also identified improvements in pupils’ active participation during lessons.

Looking ahead, Saint Edmund’s will continue its improvement work throughout the academic year, with further developments planned in curriculum provision, assessment, inclusion and engagement with families.

A school spokesperson said, “We are really pleased that the progress being made at Saint Edmund’s has been recognised through the RISE review. Our pupils are enjoying their learning and responding well to the expectations we have in place across the school. We are looking forward to building on this work during the year ahead and continuing to provide the very best opportunities for every child at Saint Edmund’s.”

Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, added, “We’re delighted to see the progress being made at Saint Edmund’s recognised in this latest RISE review. Congratulations to the whole team for the hard work behind these improvements, and to the pupils who are responding so positively to the work taking place across the school.

“There is a clear sense of momentum at Saint Edmund’s, and we look forward to continuing to support the school and its community as this work develops.”
