Springmead puts family connections at heart of school life

Springmead School and Little Crickets Nursery bring families together through celebrations, performances, workshops and community events.

Springmead School and Little Crickets Nursery are putting families at the heart of school life, with a programme of events designed to bring together children, parents, siblings, grandparents and the wider school community.

The school says creating strong connections between families and staff is an important part of its approach to education, particularly at a time when so much everyday communication takes place through messages and screens.

Throughout the year, families are invited into Springmead to celebrate children’s achievements, take part in activities and spend time together as a community.

One of the biggest events is the annual Party in the Park, held each September, when families and extended family members come together for a community celebration.

Grandparents also have their own special event, with the annual Grandparents’ Tea welcoming relatives of children from both Springmead School and Little Crickets Nursery to spend time with the children and share in their achievements.

Other events include the school’s Art Exhibition, where families can see and celebrate children’s creative work, and Carols Around the Fountain, which brings pupils and their families together during the festive season.

Parents and relatives are also invited to class performances and Nativity plays throughout the year, giving children the chance to share their developing confidence and talents with those closest to them.

At Little Crickets Nursery, family involvement includes afternoon teas, family workshops and seasonal festivals, providing regular opportunities for parents, grandparents and siblings to become involved in children’s nursery experiences.

Springmead says the events form part of its wider approach to education, based on the belief that children benefit when their families feel welcomed, supported and connected to their school.
