Home educating families in Bath are being invited to take part in a six-week Arts Award Explore course combining art, photography, astronomy and the story of the Herschel family.
Running from 7 October to 11 November 2026, the course is aimed at children and young people aged seven and over and will give participants the opportunity to work towards an official Arts Award Explore qualification.
Organised by the Herschel Museum of Astronomy, the workshops will introduce young people to different ways of making art, with activities inspired by the museum’s current exhibition exploring early photography as well as the astronomical discoveries of William, Caroline and John Herschel.
Participants will experiment with different art techniques, talk to museum staff about working in museums and galleries and develop their own artwork inspired by what they discover during the course.
They will record their activities in an Arts Award logbook before creating a final piece of work and sharing their creations in a mini-exhibition during the final session.
