Air ambulance charity calls for more volunteers after 3,200 hours of support

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity is looking for more volunteers after supporters gave more than 3,200 hours of their time in 2026.

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity is calling for more volunteers across the region after its supporters gave more than 3,200 hours of their time during the first nine months of 2026.

Between 1 January and 8 September, volunteers contributed 3,219 hours to the charity, an increase of 31% compared with the same period last year. The charity has also welcomed 30 new volunteers since January, with its volunteer retention rate currently standing at 95%.

Volunteers support the charity in a wide range of ways, including attending events, delivering talks, helping at the Charity Shop in Devizes, collecting donation tins and supporting mascots Wilber the paramedic bear and Marsha the pilot bear.

Sam Conway, community team leader at Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity, said, “Our volunteers continue to show extraordinary commitment and adaptability. Their contribution is not only measured in hours, but in the impact they make every single day.

“By giving their time, skills and enthusiasm, our volunteers help us reach more people across Wiltshire and Bath, strengthen relationships with our supporters and ultimately help keep our lifesaving service flying.”

Volunteers needed in Bath, Salisbury and Swindon

The charity is now looking for more people to join its volunteer team, with a particular need for support in Bath, Salisbury and Swindon. There is no minimum time commitment and applicants can speak to the charity team about the different roles available before deciding what suits them best.

Opportunities include representing the charity at events, selling merchandise, taking part in bucket collections and giving talks to businesses, groups, clubs and societies. Volunteers can also collect fundraising cheques, help with administration and gardening at the airbase, collect and replace donation tins or support the daily running of the Charity Shop in Devizes.

The charity’s community team has also been attending more events across Wiltshire and Bath this year, giving volunteers a wider choice of opportunities alongside its established annual events.

Sam added, “There really is something for everyone. You might love meeting new people, enjoy gardening at our airbase, tell the story of our charity or help at an event in the community. However you choose to get involved, the time you give makes a difference. You’ll be joining a fantastic community of people who are helping to keep us flying and saving lives.”
