Pupils at St Benedict’s Catholic Primary School welcomed a special visitor this term as the school strengthened its efforts to improve road safety for children and families.
The Midsomer Norton school welcomed local PCSO Will, who monitored vehicle speeds outside the school while speaking to motorists about the importance of driving carefully near schools.
The visit forms part of the school’s wider commitment to making journeys to and from school as safe as possible for pupils, parents and staff.

St Benedict’s is also working with Anna Sabine MP, together with Bath & North East Somerset Council and Somerset Council, to explore the possibility of installing a pedestrian crossing on Stratton-on-the-Fosse Road.
The proposed crossing would provide a safer route for families crossing the busy road outside the school, with discussions continuing between all parties.
Headteacher Ellen Croker said, “The safety of our pupils, families and staff is always our highest priority. We were delighted to welcome PCSO Will to the school to help reinforce the importance of safe driving around schools and thank him for giving his time to support our community.
“We are also pleased to be working with our local MP and the council to explore longer-term improvements, including a pedestrian crossing, which would make a real difference to the safety of everyone travelling to and from St Benedict’s.”
Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, added, “Schools have an important role to play in helping children develop safe habits, but keeping young people safe is something that requires the whole community to work together.
“We are proud of the proactive approach St Benedict’s has taken and grateful to everyone who is working with the school to improve road safety for pupils and families.”
The school hopes the proposed pedestrian crossing will further improve safety for its community and says it will continue to keep families updated as discussions progress.
