Families across Bath are being invited to discover the benefits of learning an instrument with SCMT Music Tuition, which has provided specialist one-to-one lessons in the city for more than 20 years.
Founded in 2004, SCMT welcomes children from the age of four, from complete beginners taking their first musical steps to experienced students working towards examinations, performances and other personal goals.

Susanna Cassam, Head of School at SCMT Music Tuition, said, “Choosing the right music teacher can have a lasting impact on a child’s confidence, development and overall enjoyment.
“Every student is treated as an individual and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach. Whether a student dreams of performing on stage, achieving examination success or simply learning for pleasure, we tailor lessons around their interests, personality and aspirations.”
One-to-one music lessons across Bath
SCMT offers tuition in piano, singing, violin, flute, drums, trumpet and saxophone, with lessons taught by a carefully selected team of experienced teachers.
Weekly and fortnightly lessons are available at private teaching premises and in students’ homes across the BA1 and BA2 areas, helping families fit music tuition around school, work and other commitments.

Susanna said, “Our tuition is delivered exclusively through specialist one-to-one lessons. This personalised approach allows students to progress at their own pace while receiving the encouragement and expert guidance they need to thrive.”
Families are also offered a free, no-obligation trial lesson with the teacher considered best suited to the student’s needs and interests.
Learning for exams or simply for enjoyment
Students can choose to work towards recognised qualifications through ABRSM, Trinity or RSL, while others learn purely for enjoyment without the pressure of formal assessments.
“Whatever the goal, our priority is to ensure that learning remains enjoyable, rewarding and motivating,” Susanna added.
Regular progress reviews help students understand how they are developing, while incentives and recognition are used to celebrate their achievements and maintain enthusiasm.

SCMT also stages regular student concerts, giving young musicians the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and share their progress with friends and family.
Susanna said, “These events provide wonderful opportunities for students to celebrate their hard work and experience the excitement of live performance in a supportive environment.
“For many students, the concerts become cherished milestones and create treasured memories for friends and family.”
Building confidence and valuable life skills
As well as developing musical ability, lessons can help children strengthen their focus, resilience, creativity and self-confidence. Students also become part of a wider musical community, where they can share experiences, receive encouragement and form new friendships.

Susanna said, “One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is watching students grow over time. Seeing a nervous beginner develop into a confident performer, witnessing the pride that comes from achieving a personal goal and sharing in the joy of our concert performances never loses its magic.
“The confidence, sense of achievement and happiness that making music brings to our students is truly remarkable.”
More than two decades after opening, SCMT remains focused on helping students reach their potential while developing a lifelong enjoyment of music.
Susanna added, “Our mission remains unchanged: to provide exceptional music tuition that inspires a lifelong love of music while helping every student reach their full potential.”
