A Bath College apprentice has earned a place in the WorldSkills UK Finals 2026 following a competitive national selection process. Alex Huggins, a refrigeration apprentice, will compete in the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps competition at Cardiff and Vale College this November.
Alex is completing a Building Services apprenticeship with Bath College while working for Cotswold Vale Refrigeration Limited. He will represent both organisations as he competes against some of the UK’s most talented young RACHP engineers.

The WorldSkills UK competitions test the technical knowledge and practical abilities of students and apprentices from across the country. Finalists in Alex’s category will complete challenges involving system installation, commissioning, fault finding and safe working practices.
Ebner, Employer Engagement Manager at Bath College, said, “It’s fantastic to support Alex throughout his journey and watch his confidence, knowledge and skills grow. Seeing him progress to the WorldSkills UK Finals is incredibly rewarding and a testament to his dedication and commitment to excellence.
“Reaching this stage reflects his talent and the value of high-quality apprenticeship training. We are proud of what he has achieved and look forward to seeing him showcase his skills on such a prestigious national stage.”
Cotswold Vale Refrigeration Limited has supported Alex’s development by providing practical workplace experience and mentoring alongside his college training.
Bath College has also recognised the contribution of BESA Group and its work encouraging young people to pursue careers within the building engineering services industry.
Alex will now prepare for the national final, where success could give him the opportunity to progress towards future international competitions.
