A popular summer holiday camp designed to nurture children’s creativity is returning to Winsley this July, offering a week packed with hands-on activities, new skills and imaginative fun.
Creative Kids, founded by local musician and educator Kate Courage in 2022, was created after she noticed there were plenty of sports camps available during the summer holidays but fewer opportunities for children who enjoy creative pursuits.

Running from 27-31 July at Winsley Village Hall near Bradford on Avon, the week-long camp is open to children aged six to 13 and will feature a wide range of activities including painting, pottery, baking, story writing and paper marbling.
Kate said, “I realised there were lots of sports camps for children to join during the summer holidays, but there seemed to be very little provision for a variety of creative activities. Creative Kids was born from that idea and it has been really popular ever since.”

Each year offers a different programme, with previous camps featuring everything from sewing, drama and stained glass to Lego cities, soap-making, dance, yoga, creative writing and papier mâché lanterns.
“We focus on kind, supportive relationships with the children and creating an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome,” said Kate. “All our staff are experienced, warm and DBS-cleared. We have a small core team with the children throughout the week, alongside specialist tutors who lead activities such as pottery and yoga.”

The camp takes place in Winsley Village Hall, which offers indoor facilities and a garden space used for outdoor activities, breaks and lunchtime play. One of the highlights of the week is the exhibition and afternoon tea held on the final day, where families are invited to view the children’s work and celebrate everything they have achieved.
Kate said, “We don’t offer individual day bookings because we want to create a family atmosphere and build relationships throughout the week. By Friday, the children have created a wonderful body of work which they proudly share with their families.”
Parents are invited to attend the exhibition from 2pm on Friday 31 July, with children acting as guides and showcasing their creative projects. Families can also enjoy homemade afternoon tea and sample some of the baking completed during the week.
Creative Kids runs from 9am to 3pm daily, with drop-off available from 8.45am. The cost is £170 for the week, with a reduced sibling rate of £145.
