Bath Building Society expands financial education programme in Bath schools

Bath Building Society is expanding its financial education programme in Bath schools, helping pupils develop budgeting, saving and life skills.

Bath Building Society is continuing its pilot programme of financial education workshops in Bath primary schools, helping children develop essential money management and life skills from an early age.

Working in partnership with the charity WizeUp Financial Education, the Society has been delivering a series of interactive workshops at schools across the city.

The latest sessions took place at St John’s Catholic Primary School in Oldfield Park, following an earlier programme at Oldfield Park Junior School.

Bath Building Society is expanding its financial education programme in Bath schools, helping pupils develop budgeting, saving and life skills.

At Oldfield Park Junior School, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils took part in workshops covering budgeting and saving, planning for the future and interview skills. The sessions were designed to help pupils build confidence and develop practical skills that will support them as they move on to secondary education.

At St John’s Catholic Primary School, pupils recently focused on presentation skills and teamwork. One activity challenged seven teams to design and create an outfit using a bin bag and a selection of craft materials including ribbons, feathers, stickers and streamers.

The exercise encouraged every member of the team to contribute ideas, communicate effectively and work together towards a shared goal.

Next week, pupils will take part in a budgeting and saving workshop, exploring topics such as household spending, budgeting, saving and how interest works. As part of the session, children will complete a mini enterprise project, working out the costs of producing a greetings card before deciding how much they could sell it for and calculating any profit.

Bath Building Society says supporting financial wellbeing remains a key part of its mission and believes helping young people understand money matters has never been more important.

The programme aims to give children the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions in later life, while also developing broader employability and life skills.

Alongside its work in primary schools, Bath Building Society delivers financial education workshops in local secondary schools and sixth forms, with content tailored to the needs of individual schools. This includes sessions for parents on topics such as university finance, as well as specialist programmes for students at Three Ways School.

During 2025, the Society’s sixth form financial education programme reached 1,337 students in state schools across Bath and North East Somerset, delivering more than 58 hours of workshops free of charge thanks to support from Bath Building Society.

The Society hopes the primary school pilot will help even more young people gain valuable financial knowledge and practical life skills for the future.
