It’s Christmas!!! Well, not quite yet, but the great news is that the panto is coming to town at the Theatre Royal Bath!
This year promises to be bigger and brighter than ever, as Marc Baylis joins the cast of Beauty and the Beast, taking on the role of Hugo in what is set to be one of the most talked-about festive shows in the city.
Best known to millions as Rob Donovan in Coronation Street, Marc brings a wealth of experience across television, film and theatre. His screen credits include Whitstable Pearl, London Kills, Misfits, EastEnders and The Bill, while on stage he has appeared in productions ranging from Hamlet to Jerusalem.
His return to pantomime follows a hugely successful run in the same role last year, and signals a performer who understands exactly what makes this uniquely British tradition so magical for families.
Pantomime in Bath is more than just a show. It’s the festive outing that families plan their Christmas around, with tickets booked months in advance and generations returning year after year. For first-time visitors, it offers an unforgettable introduction to live theatre. From the moment the curtain rises, audiences are drawn into a world of colour, music and laughter, where every gasp, giggle and cheer is shared.
This Christmas, Beauty and the Beast has been reimagined as a spectacular new production. Written by Bath’s own Jon Monie, who also appears as Louis La Plonk, it reunites him with much-loved comic performer Nick Wilton as Dame Polly La Plonk.
Together, they form the comic heart of a show packed with warmth, humour and dazzling theatrical moments.
Audiences can expect lavish sets, striking lighting, high-energy choreography and a script that balances laugh-out-loud comedy with genuine moments of emotion. The result is a fully immersive festive experience that captures everything people love about Christmas theatre.
Marc Baylis said, “I am thrilled to be playing the gloriously villainous Hugo in Beauty and the Beast! He’s got muscles, a mirror and not a shred of shame — what’s not to love?
“I can’t wait to cause mayhem on stage at the stunning Theatre Royal Bath alongside the hilarious duo of Jon Monie and Nick Wilton, what could possibly go wrong? Bring on the boos, the laughs and the chaos – Hugo has arrived, and he’s ready to steal the spotlight… and possibly your girlfriend.”
Producer Martin Dodd added, “We’re beyond excited to have Marc Baylis join Beauty and the Beast at Theatre Royal Bath this Christmas! Marc brings the perfect blend of charm, mischief, and villainous energy to Hugo.
“With stunning lighting, incredible choreography, and a production that’s only getting bigger and better, this show is set to be a festive favourite. Tickets are selling fast, so get yours now before they’re gone!”
