Double cross country success for Farmborough Primary School

Farmborough Church Primary School celebrates two team victories and individual medals at the B&NES Cross Country Competition in Bath.

Young athletes from Farmborough Church Primary School near Bath are celebrating a double victory after both the Year 5 and Year 6 boys’ teams secured first place at the Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) Cross Country Competition.

Held at Odd Down Sports Ground in Bath, the competition brought together Years 5 and 6 pupils from state and independent schools across the local authority area, with Farmborough delivering its best-ever performance at the event.

As well as the two team victories, Year 6 pupil Harry claimed gold in the individual race, while Year 5 runner Victor finished second in his race and fellow Year 5 pupil Poppy secured third place. The Year 5 girls’ team also enjoyed an excellent result, finishing as runners-up overall.

The impressive performances mean that five Farmborough runners have qualified to represent Bath and North East Somerset at the county event in Bristol on Saturday 21 November.

Harry, from Year 6, said, “It was fun, but a long race. I felt relieved and happy to finish and very excited to win. I’m looking forward to representing Farmborough and BANES at the county final in November.”

Darren Roberts, Headteacher at Farmborough Church Primary School, said, “Congratulations to all our young runners! This is Farmborough’s best ever achievement in the BANES Cross Country Competition and we are proud of each and every child.”
