Children invited to become nature detectives at Dyrham Park this autumn

Families can become nature detectives at Dyrham Park with a children's autumn wildlife trail running until 1 November. £2 per booklet, plus admission. Copy

Families are being invited to explore the great outdoors and uncover the secrets of nature with a new autumn trail at the National Trust’s Dyrham Park, near Bath.

Running until Sunday 1 November, the There’s No Deer Around Here trail is inspired by the popular children’s picture book by Andy Hussey and Rosie Venner and encourages young explorers to look for clues and signs of wildlife across the estate’s 270 acres of parkland and gardens.

The adventure follows Jacob as he tries to discover who has been visiting Granny’s garden. Armed with a special trail booklet, children can follow in his footsteps, exploring the natural world and looking for evidence of the creatures that have passed by.

Created in collaboration with Muddy Little Boots Publishing, the trail offers families an opportunity to enjoy the autumn countryside while encouraging children to develop their observation skills and discover more about the wildlife around them.

Each trail booklet costs £2 and includes a postcard featuring an illustration from the book.

The trail runs daily from 10am to 4pm until Sunday 1 November, including throughout the October half-term holiday, making it an ideal autumn activity for families looking to get outdoors.

There is no need to book in advance, although normal admission charges to Dyrham Park apply in addition to the trail booklet.

Families are advised to dress for the outdoors and wear sturdy footwear, as some areas of the site are steep and uneven.

Trail booklets can be purchased from visitor reception on arrival.
