Families invited to get creative for new Trowbridge Leisure Centre

Children across Wiltshire can enter colouring and sign design competitions ahead of the opening of the new Trowbridge Leisure Centre.

Families across Wiltshire are being invited to get involved in the countdown to the opening of the new Trowbridge Leisure Centre, with two creative competitions giving children the chance to win prizes and have their artwork displayed at the new facility.

Wiltshire Council has launched a colouring competition and a sign design competition ahead of the opening of the centre on Bythesea Road later this year. Young artists can colour in a special Trowbridge Leisure Centre picture, with one Key Stage 1 winner and one Key Stage 2 winner each receiving a free one-month Junior Zone membership when the centre opens.

Children and young people can also design a sign featuring the message, ‘Thanks for keeping our leisure centre area tidy’. The winning design will be displayed around the leisure centre car park, giving its creator the chance to leave a lasting mark on the new facility while encouraging visitors to keep the area clean and litter-free.

Entrants are being encouraged to come up with bright, colourful and imaginative designs which inspire visitors to take pride in the area while helping to protect nearby wildlife and green spaces.

The new Trowbridge Leisure Centre is being developed on Bythesea Road and will provide facilities for families and the wider community including a six-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, learner pool, gym, fitness and cycle studios, adventure zone, café, Live Well Studio and community meeting space.

The centre has also been designed with sustainability and accessibility at its heart.

Entry forms for both competitions can be collected from Trowbridge Library, Castle Place Leisure Centre or Trowbridge Sports Centre, or downloaded from www.wiltshire.gov.uk/new-trowbridge-leisure-centre.

Completed entries need to be returned by 31 October and can be handed in or posted to either Castle Place Leisure Centre or Trowbridge Sports Centre.

Cllr Mel Jacob, Cabinet Member for Communities, Engagement and Corporate Services, said, “We are incredibly excited to welcome people through the doors of the new Trowbridge Leisure Centre and these competitions are a wonderful way for local children and young people to get involved in a creative way before it opens. We want this fantastic new facility to belong to the whole community, and involving children and young people in this way helps them create a lasting connection with the centre from the very beginning.

“We have already seen tremendous creativity and enthusiasm from local schools through projects such as the leisure centre time capsule, and we are looking forward to seeing the colourful entries these competitions inspire. Whether it’s creating an eye-catching sign or a vibrant colouring design, the competitions offer a chance to win a prize, have artwork displayed and leave a lasting mark on this exciting new facility.”

The new leisure centre remains on track to open later this year, with its opening date to be confirmed as the project reaches its final stages.
