Holbrook Primary School has marked its 50th anniversary with a series of celebrations bringing together pupils, families, staff, former colleagues and members of the wider Trowbridge community.
The golden anniversary events included the burial of a special time capsule filled with memories and mementoes from school life in 2026. Families also gathered for a celebratory picnic, enjoying the community atmosphere and sharing memories of the school.
A collection of photographs charting Holbrook’s history over the past 50 years was displayed for pupils, current and former staff, parents and visitors. The exhibition prompted conversations, laughter and fond recollections as different generations reflected on how the school has grown while remaining at the heart of the community.
One particularly touching moment saw a former teacher reunited with one of their past pupils during the community event, highlighting the lasting relationships created at the school.

The celebrations also included a competition to name the Holbrook dragon. Reception pupil Lewis chose the winning name, Sparks, which will now be used for the school’s friendly dragon mascot.
Pupils also decorated and shared dragon-shaped biscuits as part of the anniversary activities.
Louise Gough, assistant headteacher, led the working party responsible for organising the celebrations. She said, “As a member of the teaching staff at Holbrook for the past 21 years, I was excited to take on the role of planning the celebrations.
“It has been a wonderful way to exemplify the sense of family and community that exists at Holbrook. Seeing the great number of people enjoying the photo gallery was particularly special, including members of the wider community who have links to the school and made the effort to come out on a very hot evening. Here’s to the next 50 years.”
The anniversary recognised the dedication of staff, the support of families and the achievements of the thousands of children who have been part of Holbrook Primary School since it opened 50 years ago.
Headteacher Vicki Cottrell said, “It has been wonderful to celebrate 50 years of Holbrook. It is clear from talking to many past pupils and members of staff that Holbrook really does hold a special place in your heart.”
As the school looks towards its next 50 years, it hopes the values of kindness, ambition, curiosity and community will continue to define life at Holbrook.
Holbrook Primary School will also be holding three open events for prospective parents:
Wednesday 16 September, 9.30am–10.30am
Thursday 15 October, 4pm–6pm
Saturday 17 October, 10am–12pm
