Redland Primary School in Chippenham has received a £2,000 grant from GreenSquareAccord to help resurface its Daily Mile track, creating a safer and more accessible space for pupils to enjoy daily exercise.
The funding was awarded to the Friends of Redland School through GreenSquareAccord’s Community Impact Fund. The parent-led fundraising group supports projects and opportunities that enhance school life beyond the core education budget.
The school’s Daily Mile track is used by children of all ages as part of the national initiative that encourages primary-aged pupils to walk or run a mile each day to improve their health and wellbeing. Over time, sections of the track have become uneven and difficult to use.
The grant will help fund a new all-weather tarmac surface, making the track safer, more durable and fully accessible for all pupils, including wheelchair users.
Marie Matthews, Co-Secretary of Friends of Redland School, said, “The Friends of Redland School are very grateful to have received this funding from GSA. We’re excited for the track renovation to be completed in time for the coming academic year.
“This funding has enabled us to provide a safe and accessible space for all children to run, move and exercise throughout the year. We also look forward to using the area to host new events, such as a colour run.”
The upgraded track is expected to play an important role in supporting children’s physical and mental wellbeing while also providing a venue for wider school activities, including sports days and community events.
Many GreenSquareAccord customers and their families live close to the school and are expected to benefit from the improved facility.
The funding follows a successful application to GreenSquareAccord’s Community Impact Fund, which supports projects focused on health and wellbeing, the environment, and life and employment skills for residents.
Grants of up to £2,000 are available each year to resident groups, community projects and local charities, funded through social value contributions from GreenSquareAccord’s suppliers.
GreenSquareAccord owns and manages more than 8,000 homes across Wiltshire.
