Seend Primary School unveils magical ‘Woodland Wonderland’ library created by pupils and community

Seend Primary School has officially opened its newly transformed library, reimagined as a ‘Woodland Wonderland’ to inspire a love of reading among pupils.

The Wiltshire primary school, part of The White Horse Federation, has created a calm and imaginative space designed to help children explore books, build literacy skills and spark creativity.

Seend Primary School opens its ‘Woodland Wonderland’ library, created with pupils, families and the community to inspire a lifelong love of reading.

The enchanting new library features murals of towering trees and hidden woodland animals, alongside cosy reading nooks where children can immerse themselves in stories. The design aims to give the feel of stepping into a magical forest, encouraging pupils to see reading as an adventure.

The transformation was made possible thanks to funding from the school’s PTA and the local church, as well as money raised by pupils during a sponsored walk, giving children a real sense of ownership over the project.

The artwork was created by former teacher Natalie Johnson, who returned to the school to bring the vision to life.

Natalie said, “I was excited by the opportunity to return to Seend to design and paint the new library. Having previously taught here, this project felt especially meaningful to me. The mural celebrates the rural setting of the school while paying homage to the class names and history. I hope the space inspires pupils to see reading as an adventure and to feel that this library belongs to them.”

Assistant headteacher Holly Chivers said, “This library is more than just a place to read. It represents what can be achieved when a community comes together. Our children are so proud knowing they helped create this wonderful space, and Natalie’s connection to the school makes this even more meaningful.”

The official opening took place on World Book Day, with families and community members invited to explore the new space and celebrate the achievement together.
