Families looking for creative activities during the school holidays can enjoy everything from jungle-themed crafts and interactive theatre to drama workshops and family sewing sessions this week at The Pound Arts Centre.
Thursday 28 May – Creation Station

The busy week of events begins with Creation Station, a relaxed family crafting session led by friend of The Pound, Sue. Running from 10am to 11am, children can make a cheeky monkey and spirally snake in a gentle jungle-themed workshop suitable for all ages. Children under seven should attend with an adult.
Thursday 28 May – Scarlet Oak Theatre: Along Came a Magpie

Later that day, families can enjoy Scarlet Oak Theatre’s Along Came a Magpie at 11am and 2pm. Set inside an intimate potting shed, the playful production follows a gardener whose peaceful world is turned upside down by an unexpected magpie visitor. The show explores friendship through storytelling, music and imaginative performance aimed at younger audiences.
Friday 29 May – Imaginate: Drama and Movement Workshop

Friday sees more family creativity with Imaginate: Drama and Movement Workshop from 10am to 11am. Aimed at primary school-aged and home-educated children alongside parents and carers, the session combines movement, props, music and storytelling to encourage children to bring ideas to life through imaginative play.
Friday 29 May – Good Habits

Music fans can then enjoy an evening performance from acclaimed indie-folk trio Good Habits at 7.30pm on Friday. Known for energetic live shows, storytelling and accordion-driven folk music, the band has previously performed at Glastonbury Festival and toured internationally.
Saturday 30 May – Family Sewing

The week rounds off on Saturday with a Family Sewing workshop from 10am to 11.30am, led by textiles artist Jess Way. Children and adults will work together to create personalised bookmarks using cross-stitch fabric and beginner-friendly sewing techniques. At the time of writing, only one space remained available.
Organisers say the varied programme has been designed to give families plenty of opportunities to get creative, enjoy live performance and spend quality time together during the half-term break.
More information and booking details are available via The Pound Arts Centre website.
