Pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Chippenham brought maths to life as they celebrated Number Day 2026 with a day of creative activities, fancy dress and fundraising.
Children arrived in a range of number-themed outfits and took part in maths challenges and games designed to build confidence and enjoyment in the subject. A number-themed cake sale added to the excitement, with pupils helping to raise money for NSPCC while learning about the importance of supporting others.

The national NSPCC Number Day encourages schools across the UK to celebrate mathematics while raising funds for services including Childline and the Speak Out Stay Safe programme, which support children and families.
At St Mary’s, the day also reflected the school’s wider approach to maths, which focuses on helping pupils become confident learners who understand how maths applies in the real world. Teaching places an emphasis on fluency, reasoning and problem-solving, encouraging children to think independently, explain their ideas and approach challenges with resilience.

Lucy Buckland, headteacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, said, “It was lovely to see the whole school come together for Number Day. The children really embraced the fun of the day, from their creative outfits to the activities and cake sale, all while supporting such an important cause.”
Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, said, “Events like Number Day are a wonderful way to bring learning and community together. It’s great to see pupils enjoying maths while also raising money for a charity that does such vital work supporting children and families.”
