Nearly 99% of families offered one of their preferred primary schools in Bath and North East Somerset

Nearly 99% of Bath and North East Somerset families have been offered a preferred primary school place, with over 94% securing their first choice for September 2026.

Families across Bath and North East Somerset have received their child’s primary school place offers today, with the vast majority securing one of their preferred choices.

All families who applied on time for a Reception place have been offered a school for September, with 98.8% receiving one of their listed preferences.

More than nine in ten families – 94.2%, equivalent to 1,544 pupils – were offered their first choice school. A further 67 children were allocated their second preference, while nine received their third.

Nineteen children were not offered any of their preferred schools and instead received a place at the nearest school with availability, known as a referral.

Councillor Paul May, cabinet member for Children’s Services, said, “This is an excellent result for families and reflects the hard work of our school admissions team to meet local demand. Beginning primary school marks an important new chapter. We wish all children and their families every success and happiness for September.”

A total of 1,639 applications were received for places starting in September 2026, slightly down from 1,686 applications for the previous academic year.
