Bath families are being invited to experience something truly different this May half term, as the immersive Colourscape installation arrives at Bath Recreation Ground for the first time.
Running from 23–31 May, Colourscape transforms an entire acre into a walk-in labyrinth of glowing colour, light and live music, creating a unique adventure for children and adults alike.

Visitors step inside a network of interconnected chambers, wearing coloured cloaks as natural daylight filters through the structure, shifting and blending hues as they move. With no fixed route, every visit becomes a personal journey through colour, sound and space.
Spanning around three times the size of previous versions seen in Bath, this larger installation offers an even more expansive and engaging experience for families to explore together.
Created by artists Peter Jones and Lynne Dickens, Colourscape has toured internationally for more than 40 years. Inside the structure, musicians and performers appear and disappear, filling the space with sound as families wander through.

Across the nine days, a varied programme of performances will bring the labyrinth to life. Opening weekend highlights include improvisation and movement led by Sylvia Hallett and Hyelim Kim, alongside dancers guiding visitors through the space.
Concert guitarist Richard Durrant will also perform, blending classical, folk and improvisation, while during the week families can enjoy vocal performances and hands-on workshops led by Michael Ormiston using instruments from across Asia.

The final weekend will see large-scale sound experiences, including percussion from Ansuman Biswas and Beibei Wang, as well as a striking processional performance from Gamelan Kembang Kirang.
Each timed ticket allows around 40 minutes inside, with families free to explore at their own pace, whether that means quietly soaking up the atmosphere or following performers through the maze.
The experience has been designed with families in mind, offering a welcoming and accessible environment. A quieter session at the end of each day provides a more relaxed visit, with additional support available on site.

Alicia John, General Manager at Bath Recreation, said, “We’re very proud to support the return of Colourscape to Bath and the collaboration behind it, as organisations come together to create an unforgettable experience that brings creativity, joy and wellbeing”.
Jason Thornton, Director and Founder at Crescent Music, commented, “Colourscape offers a unique environment where sound becomes something you can move through and interact with, a real feast for the senses!”
Jasmine Barker, Marketing and Audience Director at Bath Arts Collective (CIC), added, “Colourscape is playful, immersive and open to everyone, with the freedom to wander, follow the music or simply pause and take it all in”.
Tickets cost £15 for adults and £12 for children aged 12 and under, with under 2s going free.
