Young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will have the chance to showcase their talents to local employers at Wiltshire’s second Reverse Jobs Fair this month.
The event, organised by Wiltshire Council, will take place on Wednesday 18 March 2026 from 10am to 2pm at County Hall Atrium in Trowbridge.
Following the success of the first event in 2024, the council’s Wiltshire Employment Support Team (WEST) is once again working alongside the SEND Employment Forum to help young people build confidence and connect with potential employers.
Unlike a traditional careers event, the Reverse Jobs Fair turns the usual format on its head. Instead of employers hosting stands, it is the young people themselves who create displays highlighting their skills, experience, interests and career ambitions.
Employers are invited to browse the stalls, start conversations and learn more about what each young person could bring to their organisation.
The event is designed to provide a welcoming environment where young people can practise communication skills, gain confidence and engage with employers without the pressure of a formal interview.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Wiltshire Council, said, “Our first Reverse Jobs Fair in 2024 showed just how valuable this kind of event can be. For many of our young people, stepping out of their comfort zone and meeting employers can feel daunting.
“What makes this event so special is that it gives them the chance to take control and lead conversations in an environment that feels supportive and empowering.
“The fun twist on the traditional careers fair really allows their personalities, confidence and talents to shine through, and employers get to see the very best of what they can offer.
“I’d like to thank all the employers who supported the previous event, as well as those who have already signed up for this year – your involvement makes a big difference.
“We’re keen to build on the success of the last event, and we’d especially welcome more employers from retail and hospitality to take part, as these are popular sectors that match the strengths and aspirations of many of our young people stepping into employment.
“I’d encourage organisations to come along, meet them, and see the potential that could make a real difference to their teams.”
The first Reverse Jobs Fair in 2024 led directly to work experience opportunities, interviews, workplace visits and work trials for those who took part.
Nine of the young people involved have since moved into employment.
