King Edward’s School, Bath has been praised for its outstanding educational experience following its January 2026 Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report.
The inspection highlights strong leadership, excellent teaching and a warm, supportive environment where pupils aged 3–18 thrive.
The report also awarded the school a rare ‘Significant Strength’, recognising how pupils develop into ‘curious, resilient, kind, compassionate and responsible members of the school community’.
Wellbeing at the heart of school life
A key theme throughout the report is the school’s commitment to pupil wellbeing. Inspectors praised leaders and governors for ensuring wellbeing remains central to decision-making, relationships and everyday life.

They found that pupils feel valued and supported, developing confidence and self-esteem through strong pastoral care. The report notes pupils are ‘taught to value themselves and others as individuals, such that pupils develop high levels of self-esteem and self-confidence’.
From the early years onwards, children benefit from a ‘dynamic and responsive learning environment underpinned by a strong sense of purpose and high expectations’, helping them to build secure relationships and grow in confidence.
Strong teaching and academic success
Alongside its pastoral strengths, the report highlights the school’s academic ambition.
Inspectors found teaching to be skilful and well-paced, with teachers who know their pupils well and encourage them to explore ideas, persevere and challenge themselves.

Personalised support from academic tutors contributes to strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes, while a wide range of trips, competitions and enrichment activities help pupils broaden their interests and ‘find their voice’.
Preparing pupils for the future
The ISI report also praises the school’s careers provision. Pupils are ‘well supported to transition on to their next stages in learning, education, training and employment’, with guidance covering university, apprenticeships and vocational pathways.
This future-focused approach ensures pupils leave the school well prepared for life beyond education.

Headmaster Martin Boden said, “We are thrilled with the findings of this ISI inspection and particularly proud to have been recognised with a rare and highly prized Significant Strength. To have inspectors highlight the kindness, confidence and character of our pupils is a powerful testament to every member of our community.”
He added, “From Early Years to Sixth Form, every child at KES is encouraged to flourish, and this report reflects the dedication and care of staff and the remarkable young people they teach.”
