Moorlands girls crowned Somerset primary school football champions

Moorlands Schools Federation girls are crowned Somerset primary school football champions after a dramatic county final.

Moorlands Schools Federation’s girls’ football team are celebrating a fantastic sporting achievement after being crowned Somerset Primary Schools’ Cup County Champions.

The finals were held at Strode Sports College and saw the Moorlands team compete in seven matches across the day, including a semi-final and a nail-biting final against Mary Elton Primary school.

Moorlands dominated their group stage, winning all of their matches without conceding a single goal.

The final proved to be a closely fought contest, with both teams showing determination and skill throughout. After finishing level at full time, the match was decided by a tense penalty shoot-out, with Moorlands emerging victorious to lift the county title.

Miss Louisa Sellars, Executive Headteacher of Moorlands, said, “We are incredibly proud of this latest achievement by our girls’ football team.

“Girls’ football has been an important part of our sporting offer for some time now and it’s wonderful to see a result like this as a reward for everyone’s hard work.

“Many thanks to the staff and families who have supported the children to get here.”

The win marks a major milestone for the pupils involved and reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to encouraging girls’ participation in sport and competitive team events.
