Wiltshire mum of five launches natural deodorant designed especially for pre-teen and teenage girls
When a Wiltshire mum picked her daughter up from school and was met with an awkward moment familiar to many parents of tweens, it sparked the idea for a business now helping families across the UK.
Amanda, a paramedic and mum of five, is the founder of Blossom & Beau, a newly launched company creating natural deodorants specifically designed for young girls.
The idea first took shape almost three years ago, following a school pick-up with her daughter Chloe.
“I picked Chloe up from school and when she got in the car there was an obvious smell of sweaty armpits,” Amanda said. “I didn’t want to make a big fuss or embarrass her, so we chatted and popped to town to find her her own special deodorant.”
What should have been a simple purchase quickly became frustrating.
“After visiting two high street chemists and a leading supermarket, it was obvious I wasn’t going to get this on the high street,” she said. “That’s when the idea really started.”
Amanda began researching what would make a deodorant suitable for younger girls, particularly those just starting puberty.
“My aim was to produce a safe product for girls as young as seven,” she said. “It needed to be completely natural, vegan and suitable for young, delicate skin.
“We also wanted it to feel nice on the skin, so it’s non-sticky and quick drying,” she said. “And it smells amazing. Natural deodorants shouldn’t be plain and boring.”
Unlike many adult products, Blossom & Beau deodorants are free from harsh chemicals often found in mainstream brands.
“Our range is delicate for young skin, with no harsh chemicals which are often in adult deodorants,” Amanda said.
For Amanda, using natural ingredients was non-negotiable.
“We need to look after our skin,” she said. “We need to feel safe with what we are applying on a daily basis.”
Since launching, the feedback from families has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The response has been amazing and supportive since the day we launched,” she said. “I’ve been overwhelmed by families who have experienced the same problems as me, trying to find a suitable and safe product for their children.”
Blossom & Beau products are available online, via social media platforms and Amazon, with plans to be more visible locally.
“Keep an eye out for us at local events,” Amanda said. “We aim to be much more visible in Wiltshire, Somerset and other south west areas in 2026.”
And the great news is that new products are already in development.
“We have two further deodorants due at Easter and in the summer, as well as lip balms and body sprays, all in amazing fragrances,” she said.
Balancing a new business alongside shift work and family life is demanding, but Amanda says teamwork makes it possible.
“It’s a busy life, but between myself and Alan, my husband, we have a great routine,” she said. “The children are great and fully understand the demands of my job, but we also make sure we get family time together.”
For other mums considering a return to work or starting something new, Amanda has clear advice.
“Take the risk. Don’t ponder, go for it,” she said. “Start small and grow. Even if someone else is already doing what you want to do, just make yours better. And be kind to yourself. If you believe in it, you will get there.”
