Year 6 pupils from Newbridge Primary School took part in a special Bath Blitz Walk during the week of Remembrance, led by the Mayor of Bath’s Honorary Guides.

The tour took children through different parts of the city, where they learned about the impact of the Second World War on Bath’s buildings, infrastructure and people. The experience formed part of their enquiry topic, How do we cope in a crisis?, encouraging pupils to connect national history with the city’s own wartime story.

Their guide, Adrian, shared his extensive historical knowledge, vividly bringing to life the stories of local residents and the events that shaped Bath in 1942.

“Our pupils have been taking part in the Bath Blitz Walk since 2018. It’s one of the highlights of our enquiry, providing the opportunity to make links between research around the causes and effects of WW2 and the impact at a local level,” said Year 6 teacher and History Lead, Danielle Ross.

Jack and Thomas, Year 6 pupils, added, “It really makes you think about how different it was back in 1942, compared to now. Adrian’s explanations were great – he’s definitely our resident Bath Blitz expert!”

Paula, also in Year 6, said, “The Bath Blitz Walk was an incredible opportunity for us to learn about the interesting past of the city we live in. Despite it being a tragic event, we found out how the people of Bath really pulled together in a crisis.”
