Review: Cirque – The Greatest Show Reimagined at The Forum, Bath

Cirque

By Marie Ashcroft

The circus has come to The Forum Bath – and it’s a spectacle for all ages!

A packed audience of families, grandparents and even a couple of hen parties filled the venue, all waiting for the show to begin. With no curtain and a rather bare-looking stage, it was hard to imagine how the evening would unfold – but what followed was two hours of music, magic and mesmerising circus talent.

Cirque: The Greatest Show Reimagined features a cast of 19 performers, supported by what must be an army of backstage helpers judging by the number of dazzling costume changes.

The show opened with a short video introducing the mime artist and magician who would guide the audience through the evening. His blend of physical comedy and illusion provided light-hearted moments between the main acts, and his audience participation – involving both willing and slightly hesitant volunteers – was a particular hit. Watching guests try to follow his silent instructions often led to hilarious results.

Leading the show was Max Fox, the Britain’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer winner from April 2025. While some audience members clearly knew him from the show, for others the big reveal came later, when clips from BGT played on screen as Max performed My Way, just as he had on television. His rich vocals were impressive, as were those of the two other singers who joined him in performing a host of musical theatre favourites.

Considering the size of the Forum’s stage, the range and scale of the acts were remarkable – from contortionists and aerialists to a roller-skating duo, knife and axe throwers, gymnasts, street dancers, and a dazzling cyr wheel routine. Each act was set to a soundtrack of well-known show tunes, often performed live by the singers.

A standout moment was a breathtaking aerial performance to Roxanne from Moulin Rouge, which managed to be both technically brilliant and deeply moving.

Between the circus stunts came energetic ensemble numbers, all tied together by a Greatest Showman theme. The combination of live music, stunning lighting, glittering costumes and even bursts of indoor fireworks made for a vibrant, high-energy production.

Arriving at The Forum not quite sure what to expect – without the big top or sawdust floor of a traditional circus – I left thoroughly entertained. Cirque: The Greatest Show Reimagined is a fun, family-friendly evening packed with skill, spectacle and sparkle.
