Off the Record BaNES charity for young people appoints Rosie Backhouse as New CEO

Off the record

Off the Record Bath and North East Somerset (OTR) has announced the appointment of Rosie Backhouse as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Off the Record BaNES is a charity that improves the emotional health and wellbeing of young people aged 10–25 across Bath and North East Somerset. Offering free, confidential and independent 1:1 and group services, OTR gives over 2,000 young people each year a safe space to be heard.

Rosie will take up the role in the Autumn of 2025 as part of a planned transition, bringing fresh energy and vision as the charity continues to deliver its ambitious 2022–2027 strategy to support the emotional health and wellbeing of young people across the region.

“I’m honoured and excited to step into the role of CEO at OTR BaNES”, said Rosie. “The quality and impact of the work OTR delivers with young people across Bath & North East Somerset is truly inspiring. I look forward to supporting this incredible team as we continue to grow and strengthen that work.

“In a world that’s becoming increasingly complex for young people, it’s a privilege to lead an organisation dedicated to helping them navigate challenges, find their path, and thrive.”

With a proven track record in youth services and a passion for innovation, Rosie brings a compelling mix of strategic insight, creative thinking, and compassionate leadership. Her extensive experience in sustainable programme development and grant fundraising further strengthens OTR’s ability to reach more young people in meaningful and lasting ways.

OTR would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Phil Walters, who steps down after seven incredible years as CEO. Under Phil’s leadership, the charity has grown in both reach and reputation, supporting thousands of young people aged 10–25 and pioneering innovative services like the CAMHS Link and RUH Youth worker projects. Equally, OTR expresses its deep gratitude to Mark Ames, the outgoing Chair, for his invaluable guidance and unwavering commitment during a period of significant transformation and growth.

Rosie Backhouse’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Off the Record BaNES. With the charity currently midway through its five-year strategy, Rosie and the Board look forward to continuing to lead the organisation with purpose and collaboration, ensuring every young person in Bath and North East Somerset is emotionally healthy, confident, and empowered in themselves.
