It comes at an exciting time as Jamie’s Farm is set to open its seventh site, to visiting groups of young people at the picturesque Lower Shockerwick Farm, nestled in the Box Valley. This exciting expansion marks a significant milestone for the charity, which has already transformed the lives of over 17,000 young people.
To mark such a momentous moment in the charity’s history, the farm recently welcomed the Charity’s Patron, HM The Queen, to formally open Lower Shockerwick Farm and unveil a commemorative plaque.
The new 200-acre site – featuring meadows, woodland, river access and an historic 17th-century farmhouse – will welcome its first cohort of young people in September 2025. Once fully operational, it will boost Jamie’s Farm’s capacity, enabling over 450 children each year to benefit from its life-changing residential programme.
“Lower Shockerwick is such a quintessential farm that we have taken great joy in its reawakening,” said Laura Crouch from Jamie’s Farm. “Its storybook beauty framed in nature will leave an incredible lasting impact on the young people who come here.”
The site will be further developed as a model of regenerative agriculture, with plans for herbal leys, mob grazing and river conservation. Its close proximity to Jamie’s Farm HQ in Ditteridge will mean a herd of 100 Aberdeen-Angus cows and 1,000 sheep will now benefit from a constant strip of land that runs between the farms.
Two farms in the same valley also ensures strong community ties and seamless integration with existing programmes.
As mental health challenges and school exclusions continue to rise across the UK, the need for Jamie’s Farm’s work has never been greater. Lower Shockerwick represents not just a new chapter for the charity, but a powerful investment in the future of young people.
