This term at Springmead School, near Frome in Somerset, has seen some incredible achievements across a multitude of disciplines. The pupils have excelled, showing dedication, creativity and resilience, yielding impressive results.
“Our very latest news is that our Tag Rugby team has won the Frome, Clive Lewis Rugby Tournament,” explained Shirley Offer, Deputy Headteacher and Head of Early Years. “The Netball team have won their own tournament too, against other local schools.
“In the pool, our swimmers also made waves, achieving personal bests and contributing to the school’s sporting reputation at the National Schools Biathlon Championships Final, with our children up against some of the best runners and swimmers in England.
“Meanwhile, one of our older swimmers competed in the Somerset County Championships, in a class above his age. He reached the final, winning three bronze medals and posted the fifth fastest time of the year nationally in his age group.
“At the Devizes Eisteddfod our host of young artists won cups, medals, distinctions and commended awards for the art entered.
“Back in the classroom, academic excellence continues to shine too, with huge scholarship success to independent secondary schools for lots of our Year 6 pupils.
“At the Mid Somerset Festival, we were thrilled with our successes, winning cups at a variety of classes throughout the festival, despite the very high standards. Out of the more than 20 children who took part in the Verse Speaking, we had two Firsts, a Second, three Thirds and several with Honours or Commended. Similarly, in Creative Writing we had nearly 20 entries with two winners, two seconds and four thirds, with several Honours and Commended.
“Our Cross-Country team have done well too, competing and holding their own in the Mendip League.
“This term has been one of remarkable achievements and collective spirit, setting a high standard for the next term to come, we are delighted with all these results”.
