Review – Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at Writhlington School

Writhlington Beaty & The Beast

Emma Back and Joel Cotterill from Writhlington School review the student production of Beauty and the Beast

Writhlington School proudly presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, running from 11th to 14th March at the Dragonfly Theatre, with tickets still available.

Produced and Directed by Vickie Free, Musical Director Jacob Cooper and Choreographer Danielle Rowley-Laugharne, the famous Disney animated film is brought to life on the stage with stunning costumes, a 14 piece live orchestra and incredible production value.

An entirely student cast presents this magical story – some students taking the stage for the very first time – alongside the fantastic six form students, many of whom hope to continue into the performing arts industry.

Our incredible student, Dillon Endicott, plays the charismatic and flirtatious Lumiere, alongside award-winning student Anna Bagan as the tightly wound and straight laced Cogsworth. Together they make a formidable double act, guaranteed to make you laugh.

Emma Back sings the classic Beauty and the Beast number with power and sensitivity, while Joel Cotterill is humorous as the eccentric centric Maurice. Finally, Neve Inker and Paddy Bagan are delightful as the destined lovers, with their beautiful voices moving the audience to tears.

Parents and peers have commented that the production, “is above the standard of a school production and leaves you astounded at the quality of talent in our school.”

But be quick, they’re going fast and anyone going is guaranteed to have an ‘explosive’ time! (Watch out for the pyrotechnics – thanks Daniel Hayes!)
