Violin distinction in Royal School of Music diploma for St Mary’s student

St Mary's Calne

St Mary’s Calne student Ellie P has achieved a Distinction in her ARSM Diploma in Music Performance on violin.

The ABRSM adjudicator said in summary of Ellie’s exam performance, “The performance was very well projected throughout, strong command of the performance space and personal involvement and commitment demonstrated. The musical message was outward facing in communication.

“The pacing and sequencing were well judged, time and space created for the music to breathe before moving on. The different styles and characters of the chosen repertoire were convincingly drawn, vivid dynamics and articulation present and persuasive phrase shaping.

“Tempi were largely very appropriate, and balance and ensemble were strong. In terms of delivery… the notes were very securely in place… with generous, controlled bowing in a vibrant performance.”

“Ellie’s dedication to her instrument and remarkable musicianship have been truly inspiring,” said Mrs Sarah Loveridge, Head of Strings and Ellie’s violin teacher for the past six years at St Mary’s. “As the Principal Violinist and Leader of the Symphony Orchestra, she has not only showcased her extraordinary talent but also been a fantastic role model for younger musicians at school.

“Her commitment to excellence shines through in everything she does, whether performing or mentoring others. In addition to her violin achievements, Ellie also holds a Grade 8 award in piano, showcasing her versatility and passion for music across multiple disciplines.

“Ellie’s commitment to her music has been exceptional. She has set a brilliant example for younger students and is a true asset to the school’s musical community. We are all so proud of her and excited to see where her talent will take her.”
