Bath Rugby Foundation launches Indoor Rugby Workshops for B&NES primary schools

Bath Rugby

Bath Rugby Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of its Indoor Rugby Workshops, a brand-new initiative aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2 primary school children in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES). Delivered in partnership with STAR Scheme, these workshops will inspire children to develop key rugby skills and explore how the sport can foster teamwork, confidence, and inclusivity.

The workshops will be held at the Bath Sports & Leisure Centre on:

  • Monday 3rd March
  • Monday 10th March
  • Monday 17th March
    Time: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Location: North Parade Road, Bath, BA2 4ET

Each school can register up to once class per session, with a total of four school places available per date.

These sessions are designed to teach rugby skills that can benefit participants throughout their lives. Children and their teachers will be introduced to T1 rugby, a new non-contact version of the game that ensures the sport is accessible to everyone.

In addition, participants will gain insights into making rugby inclusive within their schools, helping children of all abilities to enjoy the sport. The workshop is being tailored to suit both KS1 and KS2 children.

The workshops will also include information and support from STAR Scheme, which helps children transition from school rugby programmes into local rugby clubs. This partnership aims to create pathways for young players to join and thrive in rugby communities, building a lifelong love for the sport.

As part of this initiative, Bath Rugby Foundation is proud to support Walcot RFC and Combe Down RFC, both of which are key partners in promoting youth rugby in the area. These efforts, backed by STAR Scheme, aim to strengthen the connection between schools and local clubs, ensuring children have opportunities to continue their rugby journeys.

Children will develop skills such as coordination, communication and teamwork, while teachers will leave with ideas and strategies to promote inclusivity in their schools through rugby. Above all, the sessions aim to inspire confidence and a love for physical activity in a fun, supportive environment.

Alex Randall, Bath Rugby Foundation’s Community Manager, said, “These workshops are an exciting opportunity for us to bring rugby to more young people across B&NES in a way that is fun, inclusive, and accessible. By introducing T1 rugby, we’re showing children and teachers how the sport can adapt to different abilities and needs, ensuring everyone feels part of the team.

“At Bath Rugby Foundation, we believe that rugby is more than just a sport – it’s a tool to build confidence, develop life skills, and foster a sense of community.”

Spaces are limited, so schools are encouraged to register as soon as possible. To express interest, contact Alex Randall, Community Manager, at email hidden; JavaScript is required.
