St Gregory’s welcomes students from Japan for an immersive cultural experience

St Gregory's

St Gregory’s Catholic College was excited to host a group of students from Beppu, Japan, for a week-long immersive cultural experience from 2 – 6 December 2024.

This enriching initiative, organised in partnership with ELAC Study Vacations and the Beppu City Council, represented a unique opportunity for students from both countries to connect, learn and grow as global citizens. The visiting students joined classes alongside their St Gregory’s peers, experiencing the English education system first-hand. Each student was paired with one of the school’s International Ambassador buddies, ensuring a warm welcome and helping to foster meaningful friendships.

The week promised to be an immersive experience in English language and culture, whilst also providing an invaluable opportunity for St Gregory’s students to interact with peers from a different cultural background.
This exchange reflects St Gregory’s ongoing commitment to global learning, which has earned the school the prestigious International School Award from the British Council. Initiatives like this highlight the school’s dedication to providing students with a global perspective and preparing them for an interconnected world.

Headteacher, Melissa George, commented, “We are thrilled to welcome our friends from Beppu to St Gregory’s. Cultural exchange programmes like this are pivotal in fostering understanding and collaboration among young people from different parts of the world. The experiences and connections made during this week will leave a lasting impression on everyone involved.”
