Heywood Prep has made a remarkable impression at this year’s Devizes Eisteddfod, with over 100 pupils showcasing their talents in speaking, singing, and instrumental performance. The school’s exceptional participation culminated in Heywood Prep being awarded the prestigious Junior School of the Year trophy.
Traditionally, Heywood has sent small groups of Speech and Drama pupils, instrumentalists, and choirs to compete. However, this year, the school significantly expanded its involvement, encouraging even more pupils to take the stage. For many, it was their first experience performing before both judges and an audience—a challenge they embraced with confidence.
The Heywood Harmonies choir and a standout Year 6 pupil were invited to perform at the festival’s Junior Showcase, a highlight of the event.
Headmaster Mr O’Connell praised the pupils’ resilience and poise, highlighting the event’s broader value beyond competition. “Opportunities like the Eisteddfod help children develop confidence, teamwork, and self-expression – skills that extend far beyond the stage,” he said.
“The success at the Devizes Eisteddfod reflects Heywood’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded pupils. The school community is immensely proud of all the children who took part and looks forward to witnessing their future achievements. To us, every child who participated is a winner.”
