Year 5 pupils from Roundhill Primary School in Southdown, Bath, learnt all about the craft of willow making last week when volunteers visited the school to demonstrate the skill and encourage the children to give it a go. The workshops saw the pupils working in pairs to use the willow provided to create an artistic stickleback fish.
“The willow craft workshop was extremely well run by experienced and enthusiastic volunteers,” said Amy Randall, Year 5 teacher and KS2 Phase Leader at Roundhill. “The children were so engaged and were very resilient throughout the day.”
“It taught us how to build and create things from willow,” commented one of the pupils, with another adding, “I thought it was challenging but I enjoyed it.”
Another pupils said, “It was really nice to do art all day and the visitors were really kind.”
The children’s work will be part of a special display at Southgate, Bath this summer.
