Families invited to Ferne Animal Sanctuary Summer Fun Day

Ferne Animal Sanctuary near Chard is hosting a family-friendly Summer Fun Day fundraiser on Sunday 19 July, with countryside games, a treasure hunt, raffle, café and axe throwing.

Families are being invited to enjoy a day of countryside fun, animal encounters and fundraising at Ferne Animal Sanctuary this summer.

The Somerset-based animal rehabilitation and rehoming charity, which originated in Wiltshire, is hosting its Summer Fun Day on Sunday 19 July, from 10am to 4pm, at its 72-acre sanctuary near Chard.

The family-friendly event will raise vital funds for the animals in Ferne’s care, with activities for all ages taking place across the day.

Visitors can enjoy classic countryside fun including welly wanging, a QR code treasure hunt around the sanctuary, a raffle with prizes to be won and a ‘name the bear’ competition, giving families the chance to take home a cuddly new friend.

The sanctuary’s on-site Perdida Café will also be open throughout the day, serving lunches, drinks, cakes and snacks, offering visitors the chance to relax and refuel between activities.

For families looking for something a little more adventurous, Axe Nomads will be joining Ferne Animal Sanctuary for the day, offering pre-bookable axe throwing sessions at 11am and 12pm.

The coached sessions will include safety guidance, competitive games, professional targets and a variety of high-quality axes, giving visitors the chance to try something memorable in a safe and supported setting.

Amy Lawrence, Corporate & Events Officer at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said, “Our Summer Fun Day is a brilliant opportunity for families, friends and supporters to spend time together, enjoy the sanctuary and help raise funds for the animals who rely on our care.

“Every ticket helps to support Ferne’s ongoing work. As a non-government funded charity, events like this make a real difference and we are so grateful to everyone who comes along, gets involved and supports the sanctuary.”

Prebooked general admission tickets cost £6 for adults and £3.50 for children aged five to 15, with under-fives entering free. Tickets include access to the sanctuary for the day, with tickets also available on the day at full price.

Axe throwing must be booked separately and is open to visitors aged 10 and over, with under-16s accompanied by an adult.

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a non-government funded charity which has provided refuge and rehabilitation for animals for more than 85 years. Located in a National Landscapes area in the Blackdown Hills near Chard, Somerset, the sanctuary houses and cares for more than 300 animals on its 72-acre site.
