Choosing the right childcare is one of the biggest decisions any parent makes. It’s not just about practical help, it’s about trust, reassurance and knowing your child is in safe, expert hands.
For families across Bath and the surrounding area, Norland placement students offer a unique and often little-known option.

Founded in 1892, Norland has almost 135 years of experience in preparing world-class early years practitioners, known as Norland Nannies. Its reputation is built on combining academic excellence with hands-on experience.
Students follow a demanding training programme, studying for a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Education and Care alongside the prestigious Norland diploma. A key part of this is the placement programme, which puts real family life at the heart of their learning.
Learning in real family homes
Throughout their training, students spend around a third of their time on placements. This gives them the opportunity to apply their skills in real homes while being closely supported by Norland.

For families, it means welcoming a highly trained student who brings up-to-date early years knowledge, practical confidence and a professional approach to childcare.
Training that goes beyond the classroom
Norland says its training combines degree-level study with extensive practical experience. Placement students arrive with a strong understanding of child development, play-based learning, emotional wellbeing and safe practice.

Because they are actively learning and being assessed, their approach is thoughtful, responsive and well planned. Students are also used to receiving feedback and communicating professionally with families.
Could your family host a Norland student?
Norland is currently looking for families in Bath and the surrounding area to host a student on a daily placement from 26 May to 17 June 2026.
This opportunity is best suited to families who:
- Have at least one child under the age of two
- Have a child at home full-time rather than in other childcare
- Can host a student for eight hours a day, Monday to Thursday, during the placement period
A primary carer must be at home full-time and not working from home. This allows you to support and guide the student as they develop their skills.
Families should also be happy to welcome a visit from the Norland Placements Team during the placement.
Hosting a placement student is not just practical support for your family. It is also a chance to play a part in shaping the next generation of highly skilled childcare professionals.
