Swim Generation is launching swimming lessons for children and adults in Bath this spring, bringing its structured, small-group approach to Fitness First Bath.
Lessons will begin on Monday 13 April, with free trial sessions available throughout March and April. Families do not need to be members of Fitness First to take part.
Tara Rahilly from Swim Generation said the team is looking forward to welcoming Bath families into the pool.

“We’ll be offering lessons from Monday 13 April at Fitness First, Bath, and we’re running free trials throughout March and April so families can come and try a lesson with us,” she said. “You don’t need to be a member of the gym to swim with Swim Generation.”
Swim Generation was set up in 2012 by Christopher Whitworth to provide private and small group swimming lessons with three core brand pillars: best in class instruction; outstanding customer service; and lessons in premium facilities.
“Since 2012, we have been teaching thousands of families weekly across South West London, Central London and Surrey,” explained Tara. “Swim Generation has created a brand and community amongst its staff, coaching team and families to create confident, safe and happy swimmers.”

Swim Generation teaches swimmers of all ages, starting with Parent and Baby and Parent and Toddler sessions for children aged three months to two years. From the age of two, children can progress into lessons without a parent in the water, following Swim Generation’s Non-Swimmer to Squad programme, which runs from Stage 1 through to Stage 10. Adult lessons are also available throughout the week.
“We take all ages at Fitness First, Bath,” Tara explained. “From babies right through to adults, our programme is designed to support swimmers at every stage of their journey.”
A key part of Swim Generation’s approach is its experienced coaching team and small class sizes.
“All of our coaches are highly trained and experienced in teaching swimmers of all ages,” Tara said. “Our coaches are in the water with the swimmers, offering demonstrations, correcting technique and giving extra support where it’s needed. Because we focus on private and small group lessons, each swimmer gets a lot of attention.”
Lessons follow a clear, progressive structure, allowing swimmers to develop confidence and technique at their own pace.
“We use a staged programme from Stage 1 to Stage 10, with clear criteria for progression,” Tara said. “Swimmers are grouped by ability so they’re always learning alongside others at a similar level.”
Making lessons enjoyable is central to the Swim Generation ethos, particularly for younger swimmers.
“Our coaches are very skilled at keeping lessons engaging and fun while still ensuring progress,” Tara added. “Swimmers are active for the whole lesson, which helps them stay focused and build confidence in the water.”
Children taking part gain both confidence and essential water safety skills, with certificates awarded as they move through the stages. Older swimmers can progress into advanced levels, including Squad training, which supports those interested in taking their swimming further.
Adult lessons cater for all abilities and goals. “We teach complete beginners, adults returning to swimming after a break, and those who want to improve a particular stroke or train for an event like a triathlon,” Tara said. “Everyone is welcome.”
Reflecting on her role, Tara added, “Swimming teaching is one of the best jobs in the world. Seeing swimmers progress each week, especially young children who grow in confidence so quickly, is incredibly rewarding. Providing life skills and water safety to families is a real privilege.”
