Families and runners are being invited to get active – and very colourful – when the Friends of Box School 5K Trail Run & Colour Run returns on Sunday 18 October.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Friends of Box School (FOBS) is bringing back the popular fundraiser for a second year, with proceeds supporting Box Primary School.
Taking place in Box and the surrounding Bybrook Valley, the event combines an 800m family-friendly Colour Run with a chip-timed 5K trail race through the Wiltshire countryside.
Get colourful with the 800m run
The afternoon’s running gets underway with the 800m Colour Run at 2pm, when participants can expect to get thoroughly covered in colourful powder.
Four colour stations will be positioned around the course, with volunteers ready to add plenty of extra colour as participants make their way around.
The non-competitive event is suitable for all abilities, with entrants welcome to walk, jog or run. The course features two laps around the event site, although runners can choose to complete either one or two laps.
Rather than racing for a finishing time, the focus will be firmly on having fun with family and friends.
Take on the Bybrook Valley 5K
The 5K Trail Run will follow at approximately 2.30pm, taking runners on a fully signposted and marshalled loop through the countryside surrounding Box.
The mixed-terrain course includes grassy fields and autumn scenery through the Bybrook Valley, with the route also taking in the impressive Box Tunnel.
All 5K runners will receive a chip-timed result provided by local timing specialists Race Ahead of Corsham, while certificates will be presented to everyone who completes the course.
Race Director Amy Stennett said, “We’re really pleased to be bringing the event back for a second year. Last year’s Colour Run and 5K showed us just how much people enjoy having a fun, active event that brings the local community together.
“This year we’re hoping even more families, runners and friends will join us, get covered in colour, enjoy the beautiful Box countryside and, most importantly, have a great afternoon while raising money for Box Primary School.”
Entries now open
The event starts from 12.30pm on Sunday 18 October, with refreshments including tea, coffee, cakes and light bites available to purchase.
Toilets will be available in the Pavilion. Parking is limited, so visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or car share wherever possible.
Entries for both events are now open through the Friends of Box School event registration page.
