St John’s CofE School in Warminster is celebrating after inspectors recognised its strengths in behaviour, attendance and personal development in its latest Ofsted inspection.
The school, which is part of Acorn Education Trust, achieved a Strong standard for both Attendance and Behaviour and Personal Development and Wellbeing under Ofsted’s inspection framework, while all other areas met the Expected standard. Safeguarding standards were also confirmed as being met.
Inspectors praised the school’s values-led approach, noting that: ‘The pupils’ views and conduct mirror the leaders’ clear sense of moral purpose.’
The report also highlighted how: ‘Pupils are extremely well prepared for life beyond school,’ recognising their understanding of diversity, British values and the wider world.
Inclusion was another key strength, with inspectors commenting: ‘The school is inclusive. Leaders commit to meeting the needs of all pupils.’ They praised staff for identifying and supporting pupils’ individual needs while working closely with families and external professionals.
Inspectors also found that pupils enjoy positive relationships with staff, behave well and benefit from a broad range of clubs and leadership opportunities. Parents were said to value the school’s ‘family feel’ and nurturing environment.
Daniel Hortop, Headteacher at St John’s CofE School, said, “I am extremely proud of this report, as it provides an accurate reflection of the exceptional school our community has worked hard to establish.
“The recognition of Behaviour and Attendance, alongside Personal Development and Wellbeing, as areas of strength highlights the robust foundations upon which the school can confidently build its future ambitions.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the staff at St John’s, as well as the wider Acorn Education Trust team, for their continued commitment and determination to ensure that St John’s remains the very best it can be for our local community.”
The report also recognised the school’s high expectations, ambitious curriculum and positive relationships between pupils and staff. While identifying further work to strengthen early writing and ensure SEND targets are consistently matched to pupils’ needs, inspectors concluded that leaders have a clear vision for inclusion and belonging and have built a school where pupils feel safe, valued and ready for the future.
