For many mums – and dads too – juggling family life with running a business and finding the right support can be the difference between an idea staying on paper and turning into something real.
That’s exactly where the upcoming Bath Spa University Business Showcase steps in, offering a full day designed to inspire, connect and support local business owners and decision makers.
Taking place at Bath Spa University’s (BSU) Newton Park campus on Wednesday 3 June, the event marks the launch of the University’s new ‘Open for Business’ initiative, supporting businesses with the sustainability of their organisation while also helping them to innovate and scale by working with BSU.
Why this matters for parents in business
Whether you’re running a business around school hours or thinking about turning a passion into a profession, this showcase is designed with real-world challenges in mind.

It’s a chance to step away from the kitchen table or home office and connect with experts, other business owners and potential collaborators – all in one place.
Parents will be able to explore practical ways to grow their business, from accessing fresh talent through student placements to tapping into research, innovation and creative expertise.
A day packed with ideas and opportunities
The showcase begins with a relaxed networking breakfast before moving into keynote talks and case study sessions featuring businesses that have already benefited from working with the University.

Throughout the day, visitors can dip in and out of sessions covering topics such as growing a creative business, supporting human transformation and getting new projects off the ground.
There will also be guided tours of the University’s facilities, including podcast suites and modern meeting spaces – offering a glimpse into resources that local businesses can access. You’re welcome to attend some or all of the activities happening throughout the day, so you can easily fit this around other commitments.
Real connections, not just conversations
One of the biggest draws of the day is the focus on meaningful networking. Rather than formal pitches, the event is designed to encourage genuine conversations between local businesses, creatives and professionals.
For parents who often work in isolation, that sense of connection can be invaluable – opening doors to collaborations, partnerships and fresh ideas.
The day rounds off with an evening drinks reception, giving attendees even more opportunity to build relationships in a relaxed setting.
