Families are being invited to celebrate the festive season at one of Bath’s most atmospheric landmarks – The Roman Baths – where heritage, history and holiday cheer combine for an unforgettable winter experience.
Just moments from the Bath Christmas Market, The Roman Baths provides a peaceful contrast to the city’s festive bustle. Children and parents can wander together along ancient pavements, discover stories of Roman Britain in the museum, and enjoy hot chocolate or mulled wine from the pop-up bar overlooking the steaming Great Bath. As dusk falls, flaming torches cast a golden glow across the waters, creating a truly magical backdrop.

The Great Bath bar will be serving festive drinks every afternoon during the Bath Christmas Market (27 November–14 December) and on special weekends (18–21 and 27–28 December). New for this year, families can enjoy Winter Warmer sessions with live performances from local choirs beside the Great Bath on 17, 18, 19 and 21 December.
Festive fun for families
Children can follow the Saturnalia spotting trail, inspired by the Roman festival that influenced many modern Christmas traditions. Guided by Hoot the Owl, they’ll hunt for festive treasures throughout the museum – free with admission.

There’s also a chance to celebrate 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen with a special Georgian Christmas craft activity. Young visitors can make their own greetings card featuring a Georgian building with a festive surprise behind the door. Drop-in sessions take place on 20, 22 and 23 December and are included in admission.
Shop and dine in style
The Roman Baths Shop is full of unique gift ideas, from honey mead and golden chocolate coins to artisan homewares and gemstone jewellery. A Roman Baths chalet at the Bath Christmas Market on York Street will also showcase seasonal gifts for history lovers.
Meanwhile, families can round off their visit with a festive treat at the Pump Room Restaurant, where indulgent Christmas afternoon teas are served in grand Georgian surroundings – with a children’s version available during the school holidays.
