Review – Jane Austen special menu at The Pizza Co in Bath

Bath Pizza Co Jane Austen

Ian Waller and family enjoy a slice of Jane Austen pizza perfection at Bath Pizza Co

What would Jane Austen order if she stepped into Bath Pizza Co today, as the city celebrates her 250th birthday? According to our waiter, it would be the Pride and Pepperoni, perhaps with a side of Love & Friendship Fries. And who are we to argue?

Bath is buzzing with all things Austen this autumn, with events, exhibitions and celebrations across the city. Now Bath Pizza Co – one of our favourite family-friendly eateries – has joined in with a limited-edition Regency-inspired menu, available until 24 September. Think pizzas with a literary twist (Pride & Pepperoni, Darcy’s Delight, Sense & Salami), paired with a refreshing Jane & Tonic (alcohol-free version also available). To top it off, guests in Regency costume can claim a complimentary glass of fizz, Monday to Thursday.

We didn’t quite manage bonnets and boots, but we did enjoy a brilliant family evening – two adults and two teens happily working our way through Austen-inspired flavours and traditional favourites.

From the special menu, we ordered the Pride and Pepperoni (£16) – loaded with pork pepperoni, sweetcorn, mozzarella, tomato and white onion – and Darcy’s Delight (£16), a vegan-friendly mix of mozzarella, tomato, roasted peppers, black olives and rocket, along with a side of Love & Friendship Fries (£6.40). The teens stuck with the main menu, choosing a chicken-and-bacon special and a vegan Margherita.

Drinks included a single Jane & Tonic, a very decent glass of Malbec, and the obligatory colas.

As always, the atmosphere was spot on. Whether you sit inside or out, Bath Pizza Co has that relaxed, welcoming vibe that makes it ideal for families, friends and date nights alike. On this occasion, a talented guitarist played perfectly pitched covers – from soulful Hendrix to mellow David Gray – creating a warm backdrop to the evening.

And the pizzas? Superb. Fresh toppings, rich tomato and cheese, and bases cooked just right (something so many pizzerias get wrong). Each one arrived piping hot and full of flavour.

Our waiter checked in regularly, the service was cheerful, and we couldn’t help but notice the mix of people around us: couples meeting for a night out, families with kids, business catch-ups, and even what looked like a first date. It’s a place that works for everyone.

For us, it was another winning family meal at Bath Pizza Co – this time with a literary twist. Thank you Jane Austen, and thank you Bath Pizza Co, for an evening of pizza perfection.
