Weekend of climate related activities for young people coming to Bath

Young Green Creators

The Young Green Creators, a group of young people with an aim to make accessible and inclusive climate-based events for young people across Bath, is holding a weekend of activities from 15-17 March.

Taking place primarily at Studio 22 in the centre of Bath, the event, which is being sponsored by House of Imagination, will offer a range of activities from democratic and scientific education, to more relaxed and creative activities, all aimed at young people aged 16 – 25 years.

“We noticed a current niche in the climate justice movement in Bath that we wanted to fill – a lack of accessibility for young people in the climate movement,” said Gracie Allen, one of the team behind the Young Green Creators. “There are a lot of opportunities for primary-aged children, and when we have attended events with main climate groups such as Extinction Rebellion, we have found that groups like these are mostly attended by middle- and older-aged adults.

“As young people. we felt a little bit left behind, ironic as we perhaps feel some of the most heavy pressure of the climate crisis, suddenly about to inherit a world that is literally burning around us. We and our peers are filled with the powerful enthusiasm to make change that is characteristic of young adulthood, but we feel that we don’t have the resources or the spaces for this zeal to go anywhere– a feeling that can lead to worsening climate anxiety, which is experiencing an epidemic amongst young people.

“We wanted to combat this with an event specifically built with education, fun and accessibility for young people in mind, informed by their opinions from our focus groups and our own experiences.

“Our event is therefore aimed at fellow young people, but we welcome participation from people of all ages and backgrounds, as most of our events will have a drop-in nature and we would love to see as many people as possible there throughout the course of the three days.

“We hope to expand people’s minds, give them the information and resources they need, and show people that climate advocacy is so much more diverse and multifaceted than just protests and recycling, with countless ways that every person can get involved that are sustainable and meaningful for them.”
