If you’re looking for something a little different – but still utterly amazing – this Mother’s Day, then the Indian High Tea at the Mint Room could be just the thing.

We’ve visited The Mint Room a couple of times before for family celebration meals and it is, quite simply, superb. Surely among the very best restaurants in Bath, with some of the friendliest and most attentive staff in town and, more importantly, food that genuinely wows on every visit.

Our latest family visit – mum, dad and two teenagers – was to try their Indian High Tea, a creative take on the classic British afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones, cream and cakes. It feels thoughtful and special, which makes it a perfect Mother’s Day treat.

Each part of the tea is beautifully prepared and presented – a real treat

The Indian High Tea is served on Saturdays and Sundays only, from 2pm–5pm, and is priced at £28 per person.

A calm, welcoming setting

There’s something incredibly relaxing about the interior of the Mint Room. It’s warm and calm, with background music at just the right level and lighting that makes you instantly unwind. As always, Soham the manager and his team were welcoming and effortlessly attentive.

Ordering is simple. Each diner chooses either the vegetarian or non-vegetarian option, then you sit back and let the chefs work their magic. It does take a little time to arrive, but when you see the beautifully presented tiers, you understand why.

Tea with a twist

The masala chai is a firm favourite with everyone in our family (me excepted – I opted for a very boring English breakfast tea).

Brewed with cardamom, cinnamon and ginger, we’re assured it’s not only delicious but also ideal for helping fend off sore throats. It certainly smells incredible as it’s poured.

Savoury perfection

If you’re unsure about something on the serving platter, our advice is simple: just go for it.

We’ve learned to trust the team at the Mint Room to serve only the very best food and they’ve never let us down. Nothing is too spicy – everything is flavourful, balanced and beautifully judged.

The lentil vada is astonishing. Crisp on the outside, soft within and layered with flavour, it delivers just the right amount of tantalising spice. It’s one of those dishes that makes you pause mid-conversation.

The subtle spice in the scones is a clever and hugely effective twist on tradition. It adds warmth without overpowering and works beautifully with the jam and cream accompaniments.

The red onion pakora is just gorgeous – surprisingly light and perfectly paired with the dips. The butter kheema crunchwich and the Kolkatta Kathi Luxe are stunning, packed with flavour yet refined and elegant.

You find yourself wanting to take your time with each bite and really savour every mouthful.

Time for something sweet

After a brief pause (you’ll need one), it’s on to the sweet tier.

The Jamun Noorani is beautifully sweet and delicately soaked in syrup, yet perfectly petite so it never feels too much. The Gulabi Gajar Macaroons are a real highlight – carrot-based, subtly spiced and utterly delicious. They stand out even among an already outstanding selection.

And then there’s the Sona Bhoondi Fudge. It looks amazing and tastes every bit as good as it promises.

A Mother’s Day to remember

By the end, one thing is clear: you won’t need dinner.

The portions are generous and the whole experience feels indulgent in the best possible way. At £28 per person, for something this carefully crafted and beautifully presented, it feels like exceptional value too.

We genuinely don’t think you’ll find a better high tea in the city. For Mother’s Day – or any special weekend treat – this is an experience you won’t forget.
